This market is a one stop location for lots of hardware tools that you can buy in Vietnam. Some shops sell mid-sized industrial equipment such as mini pumps.
My general vibe is that, for tourists, this place is good for a quick tour, but definitely not a place to have any activities.
Most of the time, tourist won’t be spending money on buying anything back from this market as these hardware materials are heavy for their size and adds on additional weight to your luggage.
On top of that, you might get into problems at the airport if you bring in hardware that resembles certain restricted items like knifes.
However, if you are a business owner looking for hardware supplier, you can perhaps visit this area to negotiate certain hardware that can be brought back via alternative shipping methods.
Although that area is big with many different shops, the things they sell are more or less repeated. Meaning to say, the stuffs you see in one shop, you can see the same things sold somewhere down nearby.
Although they sell many things, those items can be categorised into 3 categories. Industrial equipment, household items and military equipment.
1) Industrial equipment
Industrial equipment are items that are mainly used in industries. It ranges from spare parts of equipment to personal protective equipment used for safety when workers work in the factories.
Personal protective equipments(PPE)
Used for workers to keep themselves safe from hazards in the workplace. The front of these shoes are equipped with a steel cap to protect their toes from getting crushed by heavy objects.
They sell reflective vests, also know as safety vest. The purpose of this vest is to allow wearers to be more visible, thus lowering the chances moving vehicles hitting into them.
Chain blocks
Chain blocks are used as a pulley system to lift up heavy objects to desired location. The hook at the top is hooked on an anchorage point while the hook at the bottom is attached to the goods. The goods are then lifted by pulling the metal chains.
Ventilation fans
Mainly installed for room ventilation. The bigger the room, the more or bigger fans you need.
Tubes
They sell tubes made using different materials catered for different needs. Most people would be using these tubes for water or air related services.
Jacks for cars
Usually used to jack up cars to make changing of car tires easier.
Belts
Such belts are usually used for rotating equipment to spin the gears.
There are a few shops selling the same belts but just different sizes and variety.
But as always, my caution to those who want to buy is that, you might want to buy certified belts from your equipment supplier as belts without proper certification might cause safety hazards for your users .
Beacon warning lights
Beacon warning lights are used to capture attention and to give warnings.
Wheels
Used to replace wheels from trolleys or carts. Many shops are selling more or less the same kinds of wheels.
Canvas
They also sell a variety of canvas, mainly used for covering outdoor storage materials and are usually waterproof. Let them know the size you want and they can cut it for you.
Electrical appliances
These electrical switches and junction boxes are mainly for industrial use and unlikely you will need them at home.
The sockets are also different from the normal electrical applications you use at home as it is designed for industrial electrical tools requiring higher voltages.
Saw blades
Saw blade is something workers use to cut wood and concrete. Hanging something like this on top is dangerous and can cause injury if it drops.
Mix of nuts and screws
They sell different variations of nuts and screws as individual components. So you can pick what you need instead of buying a whole bag just for a few nuts you need.
They have no lack of such items, so I am pretty sure you will be able to at least get the parts you need for your daily household needs.
If you want to buy nuts for more specialised equipment , I don’t think it is a good idea to get it here because those parts usually needs certain certification to ensure its integrity.
Industrial fans
The orange fans are usually used in industrial work areas where focussed ventilation is required.
A ducting tube is usually connected to the fan and the air flow is directed to focussed areas that are needed.
Gauges
They do sell a wide variety of pressure gages and flow meters. If you want to buy, do get it calibrated before using.
Vacuum cleaner
Vacuum cleaner you will normally see being used to clean offices. You can use it in your house as well.
2) Household items
The household items they sell can be found in traditional asian households. It is unlikely you will see these items in the younger generation even in asian homes. Youngsters nowadays prefer to buy things based on brand.
Household fan
Common household fans found in traditional asian houses.
Young people nowadays probably use brands like Dyson for a more artistic look.
Foldable Ladders
One interesting thing about the ladders is that they can shrink or extend according to what you need. It can also be folded to reduce its length for easy storage.
Kitchenwares
They sell all kinds of old cooking pots that your grandmother in Asia would have used. Most of them look as if they are left there forever collecting dust.
They have blenders and thermal flasks as well. How well it works, I don’t know, but unlikely tourists will buy it back home to use.
They even sell rice cooker as well. But unlikely any tourists will buy these electrical products home. The plugs might even be different from what they use at home.
Gardening tools
They do sell spades for digging as well as cutters to cut branches. Probably not that useful if you live in a city area as these spades are more for digging land, not so suitable for plants in a pot.
Locks
Something you can actually buy home as a tourist. Locks here are probably much cheaper than what you can find back home.
They have bicycle locks as well as door locks.
Hardware shops
Where they sell drills, wrenches etc. . which can be found in homes for DIY fixtures.
These are the typical hardware shop you can find in your own country. Nothing too special other than the price.
Spray cans
They sell spray cans but not all are the same. The spray cans they sell range from fire extinguishing spray, oil spray and spray paints etc . . As a tourist, I doubt you can bring them on to the plane.
Drum lifter
A drum lifter is used to lift up 200 kg drums like this.
3) Military kits
If you are a hard core military fan, you can consider coming here to buy military equipment. They have a few shops selling such equipment to fulfil your military fantasy.
Military equipment
If you are interested to see what a typical military shop sells, you can take a look. I used to serve my nation in the military and what they sell although quite basic but it does have what you can typically find in an army shop.
They sell military designed helmets in bulks but material wise, not sure if it is the real one or a fake one.
Well they do sell military designed t-shirts of different countries with the US being the majority. Probably because people respect the US army more as they can nuke the world with the push of a button.
These bottles are more sturdy than the average bottle you have and more durable. Cost wise, it’s way cheaper and durable than your average bottles.
They also sell bags that are used to hold military equipment.
Not sure if the equipment shown are authentic, but it’s worth a look if you want to see how a military shop in the army looks like.
Final thoughts
As a tourist, there is probably little value to visit this market in Vietnam. If you are looking to explore, visit how Vietnamese shop for their engineering items, you can come take a look.
There is nothing much a tourist can buy in this market and the things they sell is mainly suitable for industrial use.
